Gels - LCVT

Prof. Dr. Andreas Jess, Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Bayreuth, in the future of his science, ethics and the question of how much earth needs man. Only available in german language.
Graduates in demand, which may be part of a diploma or PhD thesis in the context of an industrial cooperation are want to deal with various problems of chemical engineering. If you are interested please contact us immediately to get information about current offers.
Together with Peter Wasserscheid from the chair of chemical reaction engineering at the university of Erlangen/Nuremberg Andreas Jess published the textbook "Chemical technology - An Integrated Textbook" in february 2013.

Student research project on the subject:

Use of gels in fixed bed applications

In the modern chemical engineering it is necessary for the production facility to be flexible concerning application possibilities. Application fields range from thermal seperating processes to chemical processing. To guarantee flexibility, novel internals which can be replaced quickly can be used. In this regard, commercial column internals shall be functionalized by using gels. The chair for chemical engineering has gained a varied experiance and know how in structure, operation and handling of process facilities. Within the scope of seminar papers, team project, bachelor, master and diploma thesis we want to implement, recess and broarden our knowledge.

Aims of the works are

  • screening of gelation substances regarding applications for gas cleaning
  • study on the influence of gelation substance on the physical and chemical properties of the coagulating medium
  • application of the functionalized column internals in a continious plant
  • procedural dimensioning of the plant
